Proverbs 15:1
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
Words carry weight far beyond their volume. Proverbs reminds us that tone often determines outcome. A soft answer has the power to diffuse tension, calm anger, and preserve peace. Revival reshapes speech because it reshapes the heart that speaks.
A “soft answer” does not mean weakness or avoidance of truth. It means restraint guided by wisdom. It refuses to escalate conflict. It prioritizes peace over proving a point. Revival teaches us that how we speak matters as much as what we say.
Grievous words—harsh, cutting, careless—ignite anger quickly. They reveal hearts driven by impatience or pride. In a sharp world that rewards outrage and reaction, the revived believer learns to respond rather than react.
Gentle speech requires self-control, especially when emotions run high. Revival strengthens this control by anchoring us in God’s sovereignty. When we trust Him, we no longer feel compelled to defend ourselves aggressively.
The church should be a place where gentleness governs conversation. Correction may be necessary, but cruelty is never justified. Truth spoken without gentleness often wounds where it should heal.
Gentle answers protect unity. They preserve relationships during disagreement and keep doors open for reconciliation. Revival restores this wisdom, reminding us that peace is often one gentle word away.
Today, listen to your tone. Pay attention to your words. Ask God to make your speech seasoned with grace. In a sharp world, gentle answers shine brightly—and they reflect the heart of Christ.
