Proverbs 3:5–6 — “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Life confronts us with countless choices—some large, some small, all significant. In moments of decision, our natural instinct is to rely on our own wisdom, our own reasoning, and our own plans. But Solomon warns us not to lean on our understanding, for it is limited, short-sighted, and often flawed. Instead, he calls us to trust wholly in the Lord.

Trust is not partial; it requires the whole heart. Half-trust is no trust at all. To trust in the Lord with all our heart means surrendering control, even when His way seems unclear or difficult. It means believing that God knows better than we do, and that His plans are always good, even when they differ from ours.

Acknowledging God in all our ways is more than a polite prayer before making decisions. It is a lifestyle of submission—seeking His will in daily choices, aligning our goals with His Word, and inviting His guidance in every area of life. When we live this way, His promise is sure: He will direct our paths.

Many stumble in life because they trust themselves more than God. They chart their own course, pursue their own wisdom, and then wonder why the path leads to sorrow. The way of man may seem right in his own eyes, but its end is death. By contrast, those who seek the Lord’s direction find a path of peace and purpose, marked by His providential care.

The challenge is clear: whose understanding will you lean on—your own or the Lord’s? Each day, each decision, each step is an opportunity to trust. When we choose God’s path over our own, we discover that His way is always the best way.
