Behind every strong man or woman of God, there’s often a legacy of faithful influence. For Timothy, a young pastor mentored by Paul, that legacy was his mother, Eunice, and grandmother, Lois. In 2 Timothy 1:5, Paul writes, “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.” Their sincere, unwavering faith had been passed down to Timothy—not through a pulpit, but through everyday life.
Lois and Eunice didn’t need a crowd or a title to make an eternal impact. They taught Timothy the Scriptures from the time he was a child (2 Timothy 3:15), planting seeds of truth that would take root and bear fruit in his ministry. They nurtured his heart, guided his steps, and shaped his soul for the work of the Lord. Their faith wasn’t just taught—it was lived.
This is the power of generational faithfulness. God honors mothers and grandmothers who love Him, teach His Word, and model what it means to walk with Him. You may never be on a mission field or preach a sermon, but if you’re teaching your children to love and follow Jesus, you’re doing eternal work.
On this Mother’s Day weekend, be encouraged: your investment in your children’s faith matters. Like Lois and Eunice, your influence may ripple through generations. Faithfulness at home is never wasted.
