In a time of terror and oppression, when Pharaoh had ordered the death of every Hebrew male child, one mother chose to walk by faith, not fear. Her name was Jochebed, the mother of Moses. Exodus 2 tells us that she saw her baby boy was “a goodly child,” and hid him for three months. Then, when she could hide him no longer, she placed him in a basket, set him afloat on the Nile, and trusted God with the outcome.

Her courage was not born of recklessness but of deep conviction. Hebrews 11:23 commends her faith: “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents… and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.” She defied an empire not with weapons, but with unwavering trust in the providence of God.

Jochebed’s story reminds us that faithful parenting often involves surrender. We do all we can, and then we place our children in God’s hands. She could not have foreseen that her son would become the deliverer of Israel—but God did. He honored her obedience and used her sacrifice to shape history.

If you’re a mother, father, or grandparent trying to raise children in a broken world, take heart. God sees your efforts, hears your prayers, and honors your faith. Like Jochebed, you may never see the full story—but the God who writes it never forgets your faithfulness.
