Joseph of Arimathaea is mentioned only a few times in Scripture, but his quiet courage made a lasting impact. A wealthy and respected member of the Sanhedrin, Joseph had become a secret disciple of Jesus (John 19:38). But after Jesus was crucified, he stepped forward when it mattered most. He went to Pilate, “and begged the body of Jesus” (Luke 23:52). At a time when others fled in fear, Joseph used his influence and resources to honor the Savior.
Joseph’s boldness came at personal risk. Associating with a condemned man could have brought scorn or worse. But love for Jesus overcame fear of man. He offered his own new tomb, fulfilling prophecy and ensuring Christ’s body was buried with dignity and care. His one act of courage became a part of the gospel story.
Joseph’s example shows us that sometimes faithfulness means acting when others won’t. It means stepping out of the shadows and into obedience, even when it costs us. You may not be called to preach or lead, but your obedience in a single moment can echo through eternity.
Today, ask God to give you the courage to act when He calls. Faithfulness doesn’t always look like years of service—it can be one bold step in the right moment, offered in love for the Savior.
