Proverbs 15:22 — “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”
No one is wise enough to walk through life alone. God designed us to need counsel, and He blesses those who humble themselves to seek it. Plans fail when made in isolation, but they are strengthened when tested by the wisdom of many.
Listening to counsel requires humility. Pride resists advice, believing it knows best. But wisdom acknowledges that others see what we cannot. God places parents, pastors, mentors, and friends in our lives to guide us, and to ignore their wisdom is to invite failure.
Yet not all counsel is equal. The multitude of counselors must be those who walk in godliness and truth. Advice rooted in worldly thinking leads astray, but guidance grounded in God’s Word establishes the heart. The wise weigh counsel carefully against Scripture.
Seeking counsel does not mean abdicating responsibility. Ultimately, we must make decisions before God. But wise counsel shapes those decisions, guarding us from error and confirming what is good.
When we listen to godly advice, we are not only wiser but safer. Counselors provide perspective, accountability, and encouragement, strengthening our walk with the Lord. To despise their voice is to despise wisdom itself.
