God’s blueprint for marriage includes a beautiful balance of love and respect. In Ephesians 5:33, Paul writes, “Let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.” These two divine instructions speak directly to the core needs of men and women—and to the health of every marriage.

Husbands are called to love their wives sacrificially, as Christ loved the church—selflessly, tenderly, and unconditionally. This kind of love creates security, joy, and peace in the home. It says, “I’m here to serve you, protect you, and walk with you no matter what.” It’s a daily decision to put your spouse’s needs above your own.

Wives are called to honor and respect their husbands—not out of inferiority, but as a reflection of trust and reverence for God’s design. Respect breathes life into a man’s heart and reinforces his God-given role as leader and provider. When respect is present, a husband is motivated to lead well and love deeply.

When love and respect flow freely, marriage becomes a testimony of the gospel—a picture of Christ and His bride, the Church. If that balance has been lost in your home, don’t give up. Begin again with humility, forgiveness, and a renewed commitment to God’s plan.
