Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron, was a woman of influence, music, and leadership. In Exodus 15:20–21, after the miraculous parting of the Red Sea, we see her leading the women of Israel in worship: “And Miriam the prophetess… took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.” Miriam used her voice and her gifts to celebrate the mighty works of God and inspire others to do the same.
She was more than a musician—she was a prophetess, a leader, and a watchful protector. It was Miriam who stood by the riverbank watching over baby Moses. She bravely approached Pharaoh’s daughter, offering to find a nurse for the child, which led to Moses being raised by his own mother. God used Miriam's initiative and wisdom to protect the deliverer of Israel.
Though later in her life Miriam faced correction for challenging Moses’ authority (Numbers 12), her story reminds us that God uses imperfect people to do powerful things. Her life had both high and low points, but her faith and influence left a lasting mark on the nation.
Your gifts—whether they’re in music, leadership, service, or support—can be used for God’s glory. Offer them to Him wholeheartedly. Like Miriam, your obedience and worship can lead others to honor the Lord and remember His faithfulness.
