John 15:5 — “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
As we close this first week, it is good to pause and reflect on the source of all spiritual fruitfulness. Jesus’ words are clear: apart from Him, we can do nothing. No amount of labor, effort, or religious activity can produce true spiritual fruit unless it flows from abiding in Christ.
To abide means to remain connected, drawing life and strength from the vine. Just as a branch cannot survive apart from the tree, so we cannot thrive apart from Christ. Our prayer should be for hearts that remain close to Him, rooted in His love, and dependent on His power.
A fruitful heart does not happen by accident. It is the result of daily surrender—choosing to rest in Christ, obey His Word, and yield to His Spirit. When we abide in Him, He produces fruit through us: love, joy, peace, and every good work that glorifies the Father.
On this Lord’s Day, may our hearts be freshly devoted to abiding in Christ. Let us lay aside self-effort, confess our dependence, and ask Him to make us fruitful branches in His vineyard. Only then will our lives yield a harvest that brings honor to His name.
