Colossians 3:23–24 — “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
Paul reminds us that every act of service should be done heartily, as to the Lord. Gratitude transforms service from drudgery into worship. When we see Christ as the One we serve, even ordinary tasks become holy offerings of thanks.
Gratitude shifts our perspective. Instead of resenting work or seeking recognition, we serve with joy, knowing the Lord sees and rewards. Gratitude frees us from comparison, teaching us to labor faithfully regardless of who notices.
Paul ties service to inheritance. Our reward is not earthly applause but eternal inheritance in Christ. Gratitude grows when we remember that nothing done for Him is wasted. Every act of service, big or small, matters eternally.
For pastors, this truth sustains in seasons when fruit seems small or appreciation is lacking. Gratitude for serving Christ fuels perseverance. For the flock, it dignifies every vocation. Whether parenting, working, or volunteering, all can be acts of thanksgiving.
Serving with thankfulness also blesses others. A grateful heart serves willingly, joyfully, and lovingly. Gratitude removes resentment and infuses ministry with delight.
Let us serve with thankful hearts today. Whatever we do, may it be done as unto the Lord, a continual offering of gratitude to Christ.
