Proverbs 27:6 — “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”

True friends do not flatter with falsehood; they speak truth, even when it hurts. Solomon reminds us that the wounds of a friend—honest words of correction or warning—are an expression of love, while the flattering kisses of an enemy conceal deceit.

Integrity in relationships requires courage. It is far easier to remain silent than to risk discomfort by speaking truth. Yet silence in the face of sin or danger is not love but negligence. A wise friend will say what needs to be said, even when it stings.

At the same time, truth must always be spoken in love. Harshness and self-righteousness drive people away, but gentle honesty draws them to change. When correction is given with humility, grace, and compassion, it becomes a tool of healing rather than harm.

We all need people in our lives who will tell us the truth. More importantly, we need to be that kind of person for others. Flattery may gain temporary favor, but honesty builds lasting trust. Integrity means valuing truth above comfort and love above convenience.

The greatest friend of all is Christ, who speaks truth to our hearts and disciplines us because He loves us. His faithful wounds lead to healing, and His words bring life. To walk in wisdom is to speak truth in love, following His example.
