Theme Verse: “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” — Colossians 4:6

Words are powerful. They can open hearts or shut doors, build bridges or start fires. As ambassadors for Christ, our speech is part of our representation—and Scripture calls us to speak with both grace and truth. Colossians 4:6 instructs, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt...” This balance is crucial in a divided world. Grace makes our words winsome; salt gives them weight. Both are necessary.

Graceful speech does not mean weak speech. It means our tone is kind, our motives are pure, and our posture is humble. We are not here to crush people with truth, but to compel them with the love of Christ. Our speech should leave people feeling respected, even if they disagree. A harsh tone can drown out a holy message. But when truth is carried on the wings of grace, it lands more deeply and leaves a lasting impression.

Salted speech, on the other hand, means our words have substance and truth. We don’t dilute the gospel or avoid hard truths just to keep peace. Salt preserves, purifies, and adds flavor—our words should do the same. Don’t be afraid to speak clearly about sin, judgment, or the exclusivity of Christ. But speak in a way that shows you actually care about the person hearing it. Salt without grace can burn, but salt with grace preserves and heals.

In today’s age of online arguments and shouting matches, Christians have a sacred opportunity to speak differently. Whether it’s in person or on social media, our words should reflect the King we represent. Do you speak to people the way Jesus would? Do your responses invite further conversation or shut it down? Do people walk away thinking more about their opinion—or more about Christ?

So today, let your words be soaked in grace and sprinkled with truth. Speak kindly, boldly, and wisely. You are not just defending a position—you are representing a Person. And every word you say is either drawing others toward Jesus or pushing them further away. Choose your words as if Heaven is listening—because it is.
