Jeremiah 6:16
“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls…”

There is a quiet power in the old paths. Not the paths of stale tradition or lifeless ritual, but the ancient, time-tested roads trod by the prophets, the apostles, and generations of faithful believers. God does not call us to invent a new spirituality; He calls us to rediscover what has always been true. Renewal, as Jeremiah reminds us, is never a matter of innovation—it is a matter of return.

The people of Judah had grown enamored with new ways, new gods, and new ideas. They saw the old paths as too narrow, too demanding, too humble. But God tells them that the old paths are the good way. Not outdated. Not irrelevant. Good. Holy. Life-giving. The way that leads to rest, not restlessness.

To “stand in the ways” means to pause long enough to examine where your life is heading. The frantic pace of our culture keeps us sprinting forward without asking whether the road we are on leads toward God or away from Him. Spiritual awakening often begins with a halt—a sacred standstill where God asks, “Where are you going?”

Then He says, “see.” Look around. Evaluate. Discern. Not by feelings, but by Scripture. The old paths are marked by obedience, prayer, holiness, humility, service, and sacrifice. They are well-worn because they work. They lead the heart home.

Once you “ask for the old paths,” you must walk in them. God does not renew hearts that are unwilling to obey. Revival comes to those who return to the basics: daily prayer, Scripture meditation, gathered worship, honest repentance, and sacrificial love. These are not glamorous disciplines, but they are the backbone of a vibrant spiritual life.

We often chase the new because we have forgotten the beauty of the old. But God’s call still echoes across the centuries: “walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” Today, rediscover what your spirit has forgotten. Stand. See. Ask. Walk. And find rest in the good way.
