Matthew 7:24–27 — “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.”
Jesus ended the Sermon on the Mount with a striking illustration: two builders, two houses, and two foundations. The wise man built on the rock by hearing and obeying Christ’s words. The foolish man built on the sand by hearing but not obeying. Both faced storms, but only one house stood firm.
This parable reminds us that wisdom is not just about knowing God’s truth but about living it. Many hear the Word of God but fail to put it into practice. Their lives look sturdy until the storms come, and then the weakness of their foundation is revealed.
The storms are inevitable—trials, temptations, and even final judgment. When they come, only those rooted in Christ will stand. Obedience to His Word is not optional; it is the foundation of spiritual survival.
The wise builder is not perfect, but he is prepared. He digs deep, lays his life on Christ, and follows His commands. The foolish builder takes shortcuts, ignores warning signs, and builds for appearances rather than endurance.
The difference between wisdom and folly is revealed not in fair weather but in storms. Today is the time to build wisely, for tomorrow’s storms are certain. Christ, the solid rock, is the only sure foundation.
