John 15:16 — “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain.”

Jesus makes it clear that the purpose of discipleship is fruit that lasts. Temporary results are not enough; the fruit of a true disciple endures into eternity. This fruit is seen in the lives we impact, the souls we reach, and the Christlike character we develop through the Spirit’s work in us.

One of the most beautiful truths of Scripture is that nothing done in Christ’s name is wasted. The world may quickly forget our efforts, but God ensures that eternal fruit remains. A word spoken in love, a prayer offered in faith, a seed planted in witness—all of it has ripple effects that extend far beyond this life.

This verse also reminds us that discipleship is not our idea but Christ’s. He chose us and appointed us for this purpose. That means our lives are not random but intentional, designed by God to bear fruit for His glory. When we embrace this calling, life takes on eternal significance.

Fruit that remains is also connected to multiplication. The fruit of one disciple leads to another, and then another, until generations are impacted. Your obedience today may result in a harvest that continues long after you are gone. Such is the power of eternal fruit.

As disciples of Christ, let us measure success not by numbers or applause but by faithfulness to this calling. The only fruit worth living for is that which remains forever. May our lives be planted deeply in Christ, bringing forth a harvest that will last for eternity.
