On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus took a towel and basin and did what only servants were expected to do—He washed His disciples’ feet. The King of glory, knowing all power had been given into His hands (John 13:3), stooped to serve. “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14).
This was no mere act of kindness—it was a divine object lesson. Jesus wanted His followers to understand that greatness in the Kingdom of God is found in humility, not hierarchy. Service is not beneath the believer—it is the very essence of Christlikeness. The One who spoke the stars into existence got on His knees to cleanse dusty, undeserving feet. That’s the example He set for us.
Jesus didn’t just teach about serving—He embodied it. He served with grace, even knowing that one of those feet belonged to Judas. He washed the feet of the one who would betray Him, proving that true love serves without condition. What a Savior. What a Servant.
As we reflect on all the faithful servants highlighted this month, let’s remember: Jesus is our ultimate example. May His humility shape our hearts, and may His towel and basin guide our hands. There is no task too low when done in the name of our Servant King.
