1 Thessalonians 2:19 — “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?”
Paul described the believers in Thessalonica as his crown of rejoicing. He knew that when Christ returned, his joy would be in presenting these souls to the Savior. This is often called the “soulwinner’s crown”—the reward given to those who lead others to Christ. Nothing brings greater joy than seeing someone you influenced stand in heaven redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.
Evangelism is not just the work of pastors or missionaries. It is the calling of every believer. Each of us has relationships, opportunities, and spheres of influence where we can plant the gospel. We may never preach to crowds, but we can share Christ with a neighbor, a coworker, or a friend. Each soul matters, and each soul brought to Christ is a treasure laid up in heaven.
This crown is unique because it is not about what we receive but about who we bring. The joy of eternity will be multiplied as we see those we loved and witnessed to standing around the throne. Imagine the thrill of knowing that God used your simple testimony, your faithful prayers, or your quiet act of kindness to help bring someone to Christ.
The promise of this crown should motivate us to boldness. Too often we remain silent out of fear, but eternity is too important for hesitation. Souls hang in the balance, and the time to speak is now. God does not call us to win every person we speak to, but He does call us to be faithful in planting the seed.
There is also comfort in knowing that even when we feel inadequate, the Spirit empowers us. It is not our eloquence that saves but God’s power. We are simply messengers, and He brings the increase.
One day, when we stand before Christ, what will be our crown of rejoicing? May it be the souls that God graciously allowed us to influence for Him. Let us labor faithfully so that heaven is filled with those we had a part in reaching.
