Proverbs 8:17 — “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
Wisdom speaks with the voice of invitation, promising reward to those who seek her diligently. The word “early” suggests eagerness and priority. To seek wisdom early is to give it the first place in our lives—not as an afterthought when trouble comes, but as the guiding principle from the start.
Many people waste years chasing pleasure, wealth, or power, only to discover later that these pursuits are empty. By then, much time has been lost, and the scars of folly remain. But those who seek wisdom early—whether in youth, in the beginning of a task, or at the start of each day—avoid unnecessary pain and lay a foundation for blessing.
God honors those who seek Him first. Jesus echoed this truth when He said, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Wisdom and blessing follow those who make God their priority. To put Him first is to find Him faithful.
Seeking wisdom early also means responding promptly to God’s conviction. When the Spirit speaks, we must not delay in obedience. Delay dulls the conscience, but immediate response strengthens it. A heart quick to obey is a heart where wisdom dwells richly.
Do not wait until tomorrow to seek wisdom. Do not wait until old age to pursue God’s way. Begin today, begin early, begin now. Those who seek Him earnestly and promptly will surely find Him.
