In 1 Kings 17, we encounter the story of the widow of Zarephath—a woman living in a time of severe famine. She had only a small amount of flour and oil left, enough for one last meal for her and her son. But when the prophet Elijah came to her, he asked her to first make him a small cake. “For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth” (1 Kings 17:14).

The widow was faced with a choice: hold onto the last of her provisions or trust God with the little she had. In faith, she obeyed, and God did not let her down. Her jar of flour and jug of oil never ran dry. God provided for her, her son, and the prophet Elijah throughout the remainder of the drought.

The widow’s story is a powerful reminder of what it means to trust God with everything—even when it feels like you have nothing left to give. God is not limited by our resources. When we offer our last bit to Him, He multiplies it for His glory and our good. We may not always see how, but He always provides.

Are you holding on to something that you’re afraid to surrender? Take a lesson from the widow of Zarephath and trust God with what feels like your last. He will meet you where you are and provide abundantly, just as He did for her.
