Proverbs 10:19 — “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.”
The more we speak, the greater the chance of sin. Proverbs warns that in a multitude of words, sin is not lacking. Wisdom, therefore, is seen in restraint—in choosing words carefully and refusing to speak needlessly.
Words are powerful, but they are also dangerous. Hasty speech can wound, exaggerations can mislead, and idle talk can waste valuable time. The wise understand that every word carries weight and will one day be accounted for before God.
Restraint in speech is not silence but discipline. It means thinking before speaking, weighing the impact of words, and speaking only what is true, kind, and necessary. Those who learn this discipline gain the respect of others and the blessing of God.
The tongue can either be a tool of wisdom or a weapon of folly. The difference lies in how it is used. The foolish are known for many words; the wise are remembered for meaningful ones.
Walking in wisdom means valuing words as gifts. May our speech be marked not by quantity but by quality, reflecting the truth and grace of Christ.
