Proverbs 12:25 — “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.”

Every heart knows the weight of discouragement. Burdens, fears, and sorrows can make the spirit stoop low. But Proverbs teaches that a good word—spoken with kindness and truth—has the power to lift that heaviness and bring gladness.

Words of encouragement are like medicine for the soul. A timely reminder of God’s promises, a sincere expression of love, or a simple note of gratitude can breathe life into a weary heart. God uses the speech of His people to strengthen one another in times of need.

The ministry of encouragement is available to every believer. We do not need eloquence or great knowledge; we simply need a willing heart and a tongue yielded to God. A small word, spoken at the right time, can have eternal impact.

Of course, careless words can do the opposite, deepening sorrow rather than relieving it. That is why wisdom calls us to be slow to speak, prayerful in our words, and sensitive to the Spirit’s leading. A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Today, ask God to use your words to heal, not to harm. Look for someone stooping under a heavy burden and offer them a word of encouragement. In doing so, you reflect the compassion of Christ, who comforts the brokenhearted.
